As a mother of two, and an aunt of two more, I am appointed the position of costume designer and maker each and every year and have to admit that I enjoy it immensely. Each year I try my best to think up new costume ideas and make one for each of the four trick-or-treaters in my life. These costumes have ranged from a gypsy to the Incredible Hulk to a zombie, and one of my favorites, a little vampire!

A vampire costume is quite simple to create, and could be done with just a couple of dollars. Some things you will have to buy, but can probably find at your local dollar store for a buck or two, and others you will probably have right in your own home. To start with you will need two basic items- black pants and a white shirt for a boy, or a long black skirt and top or a long black dress for a girl. If your little vampire is a girl you could also shake it up a bit with a long red dress, or black skirt and red shirt. Black is a must but it can be mixed up as well!

Now that you have the minimum requirements for your little vampire, you can start with the rest of the costume. Every vampire needs a set of fangs. These can be purchased at just about any dollar store, and often comes with the fake blood as well which is an added bonus. You will then need white facial makeup, black make up, and colored hair spray. There are a wide variety of ways in which you can make up your vampire, but the white face with dark features is the most common. For a boy, white face paint with the eye brows colored in black, and his hair slicked back with gel, and if you wish, colored black with colored hair spray. You can add to his facial appearance with drips of blood on the chin or a little on the lips if you wish. For a girl, the white face paint would also be best, with black eye liner and eye brows, and bright red lipstick. You can also use black hair spray if you wish, and this can also be mixed up a bit using white or red streaks. Styling a female vampires hair is simple as well as you can leave it straight, put it in an up-do, or basically do whatever you want with it! The next key component of the vampire costume is of course the cape. This too can be purchased at any dollar store. Once you have the cape then you have the costume complete, but you can add to it if you wish with things such as a black or red vest for a boy or a bow tie, a chain with a cross for a boy or girl.

Your little vampires costume is now complete, and with very little effort or cost. They can now enjoy a night of trick or treating in their spook-tacular costume!
