There can be many causes for depression, but money is not invariably linked with any causes of depression. Depression can be linked to external losses and problems or it can be inherited or chemically related(source:www.guidetopsychology.com).
Money can be linked to external losses and problems that are created in a person's life, but there is not a general rule where specific situations cause depression or not. Those who feel they are depressed due to a lack of or over-indulgence in money, may not be identifying in the root cause of their depressed state.
A depressed feeling may come to those who feel like they do not have enough money. This does not mean money is the cause of their depression, it may mean that they are depressed because they do not feel a great sense of worth unless they have materialistic items to keep up with those who have money. In this case, money is not the cause of the depressed state, but the depression comes from low self-worth or low self-confidence.
There are many people in the world who live on very meager terms, have little, do without, and are very happy people. These people have a great sense of self-worth and purpose in life. They do not focus on what they have or do not have, but what they are able to accomplish and how they are able to enjoy their place in life.
Depression can be mistakenly linked to money in those who have too much money. This does not mean money caused the depression. Those who set their attention on money and possessions have created a lifestyle for themselves where they are relying on things that are unreliable to create happiness. Money and possessions change, get old, break, become useless, and do not have the ability to befriend us, help us, listen to us, or comfort us.
So I affirm that money is not invariably linked with depression and I profoundly state that money cannot create happiness! Those who rely on money to change their lives will find they need to become more aware of their internal needs before exporting their needs to be fulfilled by temporary things. Those who do this will find they will learn more about themselves and will have the ability to create happiness and increase self-worth and confidence. They will have more control of self and more consistency with self. Money will not be the ultimate factor in their happiness.
