The first thing that I noticed under this title was that not many people wrote on this subject. This may be because of the bad associations with dumpster diving. I can understand this. I do mine rarely, and always in the dark.
I once heard a girl talking to her friends in a restaurant about how she would dumpster dive, then sell items on eBay, so she could make ends meet. Her friends acted like she was crazy, but she was the one paying with the extra money she had made!
My own experiences have been limited to when college classes let out in a college town for the summer. This is the time of year that students are forced to give up many things to the dumpster that most people would rather keep. My son has his own mini fridge in his room thanks to dumpster diving. Our kitchen got a new microwave, and toaster oven this way. These were items were like brand new when we found them, and have lasted several years, just for gas money! This is a better deal than a garage sale! On top of which, other items were sold in garage sales, and paid for some fun extras!
Don't be ashamed to dumpster dive, treat it like an adventure, make a little cash, and enjoy!
