Basketball brawls: The 'thug mentality' of the NBA

I'm sorry, but I'm sick of hearing people complain and cry around about how the L needs to get tough on these brawls. White guys playing professional hockey duke it out on a consistent basis and nobody runs screaming into the night out of terror. Football players push and shove each other around, talk smack, and fight all of the time right on TV and in games on a constant basis, nobody says anything either. For crying out loud, baseball players charge the pitcher's mound, players empty dugouts and brawls are an almost natural thing, but nobody says anything about that either. But wait, big, strong, athletic, BLACK men throw a few punches and don't even really hurt anybody, but the whole dang country comes down on them in disgust. Labeling players as "thugs" isn't a racism thing? White men who play hockey are hardly considered thugs. Don't try to say that this isn't a racism thing. To me, I see that the whole issue is frosted and iced with racist remarks and perspectives. Why is it so scary when a couple of black men throw a punch? Sometimes, the game can be intense. Sometimes, fouls and pushing are present throughout the entire game and it can escalate. That is a fact of the game. Anybody who plays basketball knows that it can happen. Even players with the coolest heads and most laid back demeanor can be caught up in the intense competition and eminent frustration of a loss and lose control. It is called a mistake when it gets out of control. I think everyone needs to sit back, think about mistakes they made, and GET OVER IT. Carmelo sat out his games to sacrifice himself to get The Answer, Allen Iverson. If anything, the brawl was worth it. There is no good and bad in this world, that is too small-minded. What we have here is a learning experience that I'm sure many more of those "thuggish" NBA players will learn the hard way in the years to come. Try to see this brawl for what it was and don't blame it on rap music. That scapegoat is so played out, what with Tupac's death and all. Peace.
