We often discuss lotions and creams as beautifying agents. But undoubtedly, food is the main source of nutrition which enhances our beauty. Food contains vitamins, proteins, minerals, fats and water which are essential to maintain good health. Good health and good looks are two sides of a coin. Good and nutritious food reflects on our skin, hair, nails, teeth, eyes and even on correct posture. Most food contains more than one vitamin. Our body needs them to work properly, so we can grow and develop just like we should. When it comes to vitamins, each one has a unique part to play. Vitamins like A, B, C, D, E and K are very important for our proper growth and maintenance of health. Besides these, there are some more vitamins yet to be identified.
There are two types of vitamins:
1. Fat soluble 2. Water soluble.
When we eat foods which contain fat-soluble vitamins, the vitamins are stored in the fat tissues in our body and majorly in the liver. They remain in the body fat until the body needs them.
Fat-soluble vitamins stay stored in the body for some time, some for a few days and some for up to 6 months! Then, when the organs or tissues need them, they are carried and deposited into that area of the body. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are all fat-soluble vitamins.
Water-soluble vitamins are dissimilar. When we eat foods which contain water-soluble vitamins, the vitamins don't get stored as much in our body. Instead, they journey through our bloodstream. Whatever our body doesn't utilize comes out when we urinate.
So these kinds of vitamins require to be replaced frequently because they don't linger. This group of vitamins includes vitamin C and the big group of B vitamins - B1 (thiamin), B2 (riboflavin), niacin, B6 (pyridoxine), folic acid, B12 (cobalamine), biotin, and pantothenic acid.
