Twitter? What is it? You see people talking about it on TV, you read about it in newspapers, and your friends are even talking about it. Twitter is a website used by thousands of people. Its a fun place to update what you are doing or to say fun facts. When you make an update it is called a tweet. Tweets usually update people about things such as "at school", "Going to the store" People who read your updates are followers. People who follow you get updates on their home page every time you make a new tweet. The same is on your home page for the people that you are following.
To follow someone is really simple to do you click on their twitter page and on the top of the page somewhere by their profile picture usually underneath is a button that says follow. Click it. Once you are following someone this button will say you are following... If you want to send someone a private message all you have to do is send them a direct message that will only be read by the person you send it to. Unlike the tweets which can be seen by almost anyone.
There is an option where you can set your profile to private so that only people you accept can read your tweets. If you are mentioning someone in a tweet or just want to tell someone something in a tweet you can @ reply them. To do this when typing your tweet type @ then the person's twitter name. This puts a link in your tweet to this person's twitter.
Some fun activites on twitter are trending topics and follow Fridays. Follow Fridays are when someone or people put the twitter names of their friends in their tweets to help their friends recieve followers. People use to twitter for many reasons. Some use it as a way to tell people they are broadcasting or doing live shows on other websites when they are live. Others use it to update people when they upload videos on youtube or just to keep people updated on what is happening in their lives.
Creating a twitter is easy to do. All you need is an email and to create a username and password. Then enter your date of bith and you have a twitter account. The next step is make your first tweet. Then you want to find someone to follow. There are lots of choices on who to follow. You can find your friends, celebritys, companies, stores, and even causes or websites. Next you may want to see if any of your friends in your contacts have twitters. Tell your friends so that way you can gain followers. Twitter is a good way to get your name out there and also have contact with people you would not normally get a chance to talk to.
Another thing that is good to use with twitter is tweet deck. You download it online. Once downloaded you can access it without even being online. From Tweet deck you can make new tweets and read new updates from the people you are following. This comes in handy when you are doing other things online and it makes it easier so you will not need to open up a window just to make a new tweet.
