Movie reviews: Ice Age 3, Dawn of the Dinosaurs

The third installment of the Ice Age series was as cute and funny as the first two movies. Scrat is still holding on (and losing) that beloved acorn and he meets another squirrel and he falls head over heels for her. The two go on their own adventures while the very unusual pack of Sid, Manny, Ellie, and Diego. Manny and Ellie became a couple and now are expecting a baby. Manny goes crazy trying to get everything ready for the baby and builds a little playground for the baby. Diego becomes aware that he's not the same tiger that he was years ago. He wishes that he could become a predator again and not some house cat. He leaves in hunt for his inner killer. Sid wants to have a family of his own after he sees Manny and Ellie expecting. So being the Sid that he is, his steals three-dinosaur eggs. The eggs hatch and he loves being a mommy to three dinosaurs that are bigger them him. The only problem is that the mother dinosaur wants her babies back and comes from them and taking Sid along with the three.

Manny wants to go rescue Sid and travels into an underground world where they meet Buck, who's a one eyed weasel that likes to hunt dinosaurs. They go through crazy adventures and humor along the way. The face danger when Ellie is trapped by many dinosaurs, but Diego come in and saves her. They eventually find Sid, Ellie becomes a mom, and Diego comes back home.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs had a lot of humor in it. Some that went over my 10-year-old sister's head. They did add a few dirty jokes in the movie that made me chuckle, but those jokes had my little sister ask what was funny. Scrat and his new girlfriend were a delight to watch. Scrat was always my favorite character and even though he doesn't speak, his parts in the movie were probably the funniest. I watched it in 3-D and I never really saw any 3-D effects during the movie, so I would recommend to save those extra dollars and skip on the glasses. The movie is like any of the other Ice Age movies, so if you liked any of the previous ones, you'll like this one.

It showed the love betwwen Mannie and Ellie, the humor in Sid's actions, and the love everyone has for one another, even though they don't want to admit they do care for one another. It's a very cute movie for the whole family to watch. I could have waited for the DVD to come out, it wasn't a must see. However, with my little sister begging to go see it at the theater, I had to give in. The movie is great for a family night or just to go see a good movie with your youngsters.
