In the 2008-2009 NFL season, there were teams where miracles happened and teams that got their dreams of making the playoffs crushed. Those teams that had their miracles happen ended up being thought of that they might be a good team in the 2009-2010 season. But what about those teams that didn't make it? Do they have a chance next year? Can they make their miracles come true? Well here is a list of teams that can be dangerous in the 2009-2010 season that didn't make it to the playoffs last year.
New England Patriots: Last year the Patriots were the favorites to win the Super Bowl. But during week 1 of the NFL regular season against the Chiefs, the worst happened. Tom Brady, probably known as one of the best quarterbacks in all of football, went down. He had torn his ACL ligament in his leg. This caused him to miss the rest of the season. In came back-up quarterback Matt Cassel to try and bring this team to the playoffs. They had a rough year. They went 11-5 which is pretty good, but Miami had a better conference record which sent them into the playoffs instead of the New England Patriots. Now this year, Tom Brady is back. They have gotten younger on defense and are back to being a playoff caliber team. With their overall skill, look for the Patriots to come out on top of the AFC East.
New York Jets: I like the New York Jets to be a competitive team because of their new additions to their team. They have new coach Rex Ryan who is a defensive special list when it comes to football. They have added plenty of talent to that defensive side as well with new players during the offseason. They drafted USC quarterback Mark Sanchez who will most likely start the season over Kellen Clemens. They will have a tough road to get to the playoffs, but this team looks strong with their defense as one of the top defenses in the league.
Washington Redskins: The Redskins are a risky choice, but they have the skill. After going 8-8 last year, the Redskins signed DT Albert Haynesworth who is the best at his position. They have also made other improvements to the defense. Yes, the offense is a little on the weak side, but I think their defense can do well enough so they win more games. I say they are risky because of their division. The NFC East is the one of the toughest divisions in football. Therefore, they will have a hard schedule to overcome.
Chicago Bears: The Bears last year went a good 9-7, but it wasn't good enough. Over the past years the Bears haven't had a good quarterback who could lead them into the playoffs. This year, they received Jay Cutler in a trade with the Broncos. Jay Cutler is a young quarterback who has a great arm and great talent overall at the position. The defense is always good so they hope that can help bring them into playoff contention.
