Are baseball players paid too much?

Baseball players and professional athletes in general, are paid according fairly according to the money they generate. Baseball players receive most of their money from people like you and me, people that pay the ticket prices, buy the concessions, and buy the merchandise. People that are truly upset and feel that the multi-million dollars contracts these players receive is unfair, should stop watching it on television, stop going to ball games, and stop buying hats, jerseys, and flags.

In the collegiate ranks, the money available for scholarships is based on the amount of revenue they generate. This explains why football and basketball teams are able to have their reserve players on full scholarships. While in school at the University of Toledo, I was a member of the swim team. Due to the amount of football scholarships and basketball scholarships, the swim team had to be cut to remain Title IX compliant. We generated no revenue, had few full scholarships, hence we got the ax. Was it fair that our football team got to stay at the MGM Grand while in Las Vegas playing UNLV? The money that it took to pay just for that trip could have run the swim team for 5 years, but money talks and everything else walks.

Where would the millions of dollars go, if not to the players? In all fairness to them, they are away from their family for extended periods of time, have to keep themselves in decent enough shape to play 162 games a year, and have to play well enough to have people come out to the ballpark. The people who say they are payed to much just to play a game, have no idea about the business aspect of professional sports.
