I saw this flick on the free Showtime weekend, because if it's free-it's for me. I never pay for premium channels; they are so not worth it. But the horror film Castle Freak is definitely worth taking a look at.
Moving his family to Italy, hoping to rekindle his marital flame. John Reilly moves into a 700-year-old castle. As he is taking inventory of the house, his blind daughter, Rebecca is wandering around and falls into a dungeon. While in the dungeon Rebecca hears odd moans and groans and becomes convinced that someone is living down there. Her parents, as usual, pay no attention to her and think she is just fantasizing.
Now John, who is a former alcoholic who has been having trouble with his marriage, ever since a drunk driving accident killed his son and blinded his daughter. His wife, who cannot forgive him for his drunken escapade, wishes him dead and drives him back to the bottle.
I can't say any more without ruining the movie, but Castle Freak contains a full range of dark delights: whippings, a thumb amputation and many more surprises. This is a masterful and gripping horror film. Also, it was inspired by H. P. Lovecraft's story, "The Thing on the Doorstep."
Castle Freak is top notch horror!
