Resources to help with an online job search

Thanks to the internet, job hunting has become a lot easier than it has been in the past. Where once upon a time you had to take time off from your current job and get dressed up to meet with an agency before you were even offered job opportunities, now you can look for appropriate listings from the comfort of your own home.

The following are some of the most popular websites for online job searches.

Monster.com

Monster.com is one of the most popular sites that contains job openings online. Not only do they have over 230,000 job listings easily divided by careerZ6EFP category, they also offer many other resources such as help with resume building, interviewing skills and even a salary wizard.

There are quite a few success stories written about on their forum and many have commented on how often their resumes are actually looked at. This is a great site to help you get over being intimidated by online job hunting.

CareerBuilder.com

While not as big as Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com is another good place to start looking for a job online. Instead of merely copying from other online job listings, they are unique in the fact that they pull job listings from newspapers which can provide you with some unique opportunities that you might not find elsewhere.

They also offer career training courses, college courses, a career planner quiz and a job skills discovery test for some personal and insightful information.

HotJobs.com

HotJobs seems to be another well-liked site by users. Like Monster, they allow you to see how many times your resume has been viewed, but they also give you the ability to block certain companies from accessing it. This can be a great benefit if you do not want your current employer to know that you are job hunting.

They give you the ability to browse by state, industry and keyword and also like Monster they have tools to help you with resume writing, networking and interviewing.

Getthejob.com

This is one of the webs biggest resources when it comes to finding a job online. Getthejob.com is said to have over 2,000,000 job posts. One of the biggest benefits of this site is that they get job listings directly from the companies themselves (as opposed to being overwhelmed by agency listings). It also enables job hunters to connect to the hiring companies website so they can read the entire job description and know upfront what the companies preferred application method is to apply.

Indeed.com

One of the benefits of going to Indeed.com is the fact that they use many of the sites above to get their listings. This can save you time by having so many listing in one place, instead of having to visit each of the other sites individually. A problem with the site however is that they do not have their listing divided by category so it is important that you have the exact right keywords to find appropriate jobs in your field.

Craigslist.com

Craigslist is another great place to find unique employment opportunities that you will not find anywhere else. Not only do they list many full time job opportunities but they also list many part-time and freelance opportunities as well.

The downside to Craigslist however is that there are quite a few misleading or shady ads as well, so you need to be very careful about the ads that you respond to.

There are quite a few other sites you can look into as well such as; iFreelance.com, Beyond.com, Jobs.com, Online-Writing-Jobs.com, Simplyhired.com, Jobing.com and CareerJet.com.

The best way to make the most of your online job hunting however would be to apply to at least two or three of these sites to ensure that you come across as many opportunities as possible for a well rounded job search.
