My ultimate goal(careerwise) is to become a successful writer. Now, a lot of people have this dream or desire to become a writer and in the same token some may have failed. I say failed but I use the word loosely because each individuals definition of success is different. It's not fair for you or me to judge one persons work as successful or not. Who's to say that just writing a simple blog like this one is not successful?
It all depends on the viewpoint of the writer. In my opinion, any form of writing that provokes the reader to: laugh, cry, look, hear, see things differently or just provoke the reader to think has to qualify a successful piece literature. And that is the important thing, making a reader thinks about the material that you write. If the material is geared to be funny, then the reader should laugh, or at least giggle. If the material is provocative and serious, then the reader should be able to reflect on the material as such.
The good thing about it is that the writer has total control of the situation. By being the author, the writer can steer the material in whatever direction he/she would like it to go. That is what is so much fun about writing a book or short story. It allows for the writer to create a world that can allow for the reader to escape for a few hours a day as they read the book. It is not always an easy objective to achieve but being able to mesmerize a reader, if only for a moment, is pretty impressive.
So when you think about it, success or failure really depends on the way the writer views his/her material. If the writer feels that they accomplished what they wanted to accomplish in their writing. If they were able to get their point across in the material, then one would have to assume that they were successful. The bottom line is that it depends on what the individual writer actually considers success. No matter if it is the drive of making lots of money or the feeling a writer receives after finishing a painstaking writing assignment. Success is what the writer makes it. But as a writer, if that success does not come quickly, it is always fun to continue to write until that success satisfies the writer. Now go out their and write until you feel that you are successful.
