(Verse One)
Waking to the morn
to the sunlight through the door
I knew she had gone
It was just bout time.
when I rolled on my side
boy to my surprise
she left a lil behind.
On the headrest laid
three red roses
with a tear stained note
and It said
(Chorus)
Boy I know its hard
'cause I think I fell too
But the cowboy life
really ain't right for you
Now you know I love you
so I left with a bit of you.
I'll see you again one day,
Goodbye my cowboy.
(Verse Two)
Now I left that motel
with the note in my pocket
and my saddle on my back.
Heading for Calgary
to make my horse.
Every Diner on the way
played some song
to remind me of that day.
Twice I thought I saw her
but I only knew it was the scent
of roses in front of the motels.
In those lonely nights I sat down
next to them roses
to read that note
just one more time.
and it said
(Chorus)
Boy I know its hard
'cause I think I fell too
But the cowboy life
really ain't right for you.
Now you know I love you
so I left with a bit of you.
I'll see you again one day,
Goodbye my cowboy.
(Verse Three)
It was six years later
and back in Cheyenne.
My horse been drawn.
Not another girl
ever walked my way.
Maybe I just turned
and always looked
the other way.
I was tied in on my horse
and sitting in the shoot
feeling rather gloom.
Just before the gate opened
I looked up just in time
to see a beautiful blond
with a five year old by her side.
My world turned up side down
the bronc meant nothing now.
As I fell to the ground
and that hoof kick my chest.
Last thing I saw
was my beautiful boy
and the woman that I love.
I handed her the note with
the arrowhead around my neck.
it said
(Chorus)
Boy I know its hard
'cause I think I fell too
But the cowboy life
really ain't right for you.
Now you know I love you
so I left with a bit of you.
I'll see you again one day,
Goodbye my cowboy.
(Verse Four)
Now Saint Pete
The last words I heard were
Daddy and I love you.
Every year on my grave you will
find a new note and two more roses.
When she finally comes
I'll be by these gates next to you.
'Cause I'm done saying goodbye
to my lil Cowboy and love that's true.
