Fashion trends: Hot colors for 2009

2009 is the year of feel-good fashion. It's been a hard year all around, which means that designers are trying to use clothes to put some smiles back on peoples' faces. These carefree clothes are most effective when combined with a healthy dose of bright, happy colors. So don't worry, be happy, and try looking for some pieces in these fabulous 2009 colors.

[1.] Mimosa (bright yellow)
Sunshine, marigolds, lemonade ... yellow has got to be the most literal happy color. Even the signature smiley faces are yellow, so it shouldn't be a surprise that this hue is hot for 2009. If you feel like yellow might be a tad too bright for you to do head-to-toe in a little bright dress, try mixing yellow pieces in with your more toned down wardrobe. Some suggestions: a yellow cardigan, yellow handbag, or some sunny yellow shoes.

[2.] Cerulean (bright blue)
Inspired by the relaxing, care-free waves of tropical oceans, wearing this brilliant blue can make you feel like you're on vacation. It's especially head-turning when worn in a dress, but you can make your cerulean more meek by choosing blouses or jewelry in the shade instead of doing it all over. If you feel especially daring, why not try a pop of this bright color in your nail polish or eye makeup?

[3.] Fuchsia (bright pink)
You can't help feeling happy in this bright bubblegum shade. Another color that looks great on a dress, you could also try a fuchsia button-down or blouse. Try layering a suit jacket on top for a look that's polished and still pretty.

[4.] Gray
As we move into fall, you're going to need some neutrals to mix with all these bright colors. Gray is big this year, and it's a color that everyone can wear. A versatile neutral, gray isn't harsh like black, which means you don't have to worry about what it looks like next to your skin tone. Try some gray jeans, and maybe pair them with a plain tank and yellow cardigan on top!

[5.] Wine
Another great fall color is a deep maroon. It has a luxurious yet comfortable feeling, and can work well in any autumn wardrobe. A sweater is a nice safe way to wear this color, but you can be more creative with it, too. One of my favorite looks is suede pumps in this rich color. Feel especially daring? Try wearing wine in an autumn coat, or as a pair of corduroys.

The colors of 2009 could put a candy shop to shame. Pair these luscious shades with your favorite sweet styles and you'll be unstoppable. Soon you'll be turning heads everywhere you go, and then you'll know why they call it feel good fashion.
