Product reviews: Cover Girl Lash Blast

by Amber Hilton

Created on: August 16, 2009

As someone genetically endowed with barely-there lashes, I am constantly looking for products that promise to lengthen, thicken and add some much needed drama to my eye-makeup look. CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara does just that, living up to its claim to "max-out each and every lash, leaving you with the ultimate big lash look."

Like most other mascara lines, CoverGirl LashBlast is available in a range of colors, including Very Black, Black, Black Brown and Brown. It is also available in a Waterproof option. After the wide success of the original LashBlast line, CoverGirl introduced LashBlast Luxe, which is my personal favorite. With this line, CoverGirl combined the same patented-brush and successful blackest-black formula from the original line and added luxe shimmers of color. There are four shades available with just a hint of color and shimmer, including Black Platinum, Black Cabernet, Black Royale and Black Emerald. I love the Black Emerald, which really bring out my hazel eyes.

In my quest for Cleopatra-worthy lashes, I have tried nearly every brand, from the department store to the drug store, and CoverGirl LashBlast is currently my favorite hands down. I have found other mascara products that either lengthen or thicken well, but usually have had to sacrifice length for thickness or vice versa. Also, most other brands require several carefully applied coats to create the look that I crave. Not only that, but other products that work well almost always result in clumpy lashes, especially after several uses. LashBlast lasts forever without getting dry or clumpy. I am religious about replacing my mascara every three months to avoid bacteria and eye infections, and usually there is still some product left when I dispose of the tube. Finally, LashBlast only requires one coat to get the desired dramatic effect.

I have purchased LashBlast from a variety of retailers, including WalMart, Target and Walgreens, for a wide range of prices. I typically watch for sales and stock up when I find a good deal. I have paid as much as $10.99 and as little as $5.99 for a single tube, depending on the retailer and the current sale price.

I would highly recommend that anyone who is not in love with their current mascara brand give this product a try. I bought it on a whim when I thought I was pretty happy with my current brand and I won't ever go back. For an even more dramatic look, try adding a heated eyelash curler and a lash-conditioning serum (such as RenewLash) to your routine.
