Libra, the Sun sign of the zodiac attributed to those born between September 22nd and October 22nd, is the seventh in the zodiac and is also traditionally associated with the planet Venus along with Taurus. Libra is symbolised by the only inanimate symbol in the zodiac, a set of scales. It is an air sign, along with Gemini and Aquarius, and the third of the four Cardinal signs. This means that it is subject to flux or change, as is any person born under that sign. Librans are emotional but analytical. The period of Libra in astrology begins at the autumn equinox in the northern hemisphere.

Libra is a masculine sign, and those born under it are often more comfortable in roles socially attributed to the masculine, regardless of the Libran's gender. Libra as the seventh sign of the zodiac relates roughly to the age range 42 - 49; Librans often focus on careers that take many years to accomplish any authority or respect among their professional peers. Libra is also associated with the seventh House in astrology: partnerships. Anyone with Libra as an ascending sign will be good working in groups and in retaining a high amount of detailed information in a single subject. They are very focused.

Children born under Libra are laid-back, mellow and productive, much like a good harvest. They are likable and often have a wide circle of friends who regularly turn to Libra for help or to sort out who actually had the closest marble or fastest sprint time. Libra children are very easy to be around and look after; they are optimistic and enthusiastic, willing to see if that tower could take one more building block or if the boat you've built together will really float. They have an innate ability for fairness and will never cheat in games or take the largest slice of pie. In fact if left to cut the pie themselves, there wont be a larger slice! Libran children can be a little less enthusiastic when it comes to actually participating in sports or anything that involves technical ability. They are far more suited to the arts and literature in particular as they have a love of words and the complexities of language. The influence of Venus is strong with these children and they will adore story books with lavish illustrations, and the opportunity to be read to as we all to read themselves. However, their sensitive side may become too involved with the story and a little sympathy may be required from a parent who finds their Libra child in tears at the end of Bambi or The
