Leo is the Sun sign of the zodiac attributed to those born between July 23rd and August 23rd. The sign is the fifth in the zodiac and is also traditionally associated with the Sun itself. Leo is symbolised by a lion, and is said to be a fire sign, along with Aries and Sagittarius. It is the second of the four fixed signs. This means that it is resistant to change, and so is the person born under that sign unless they instigate and control the change themselves. They are socially outgoing and surprisingly sensitive individuals.

Leo is a very outgoing masculine sign, and those born under it regularly seek the approval of male figures in their lives. Women are also important, but not so much so as their male peers and elders. Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac which relates roughly to the age range 28 - 35; Leos usually find their niche in society around this age and have the time of their lives for this short period. Leo is also associated with the fifth House in astrology which governs pleasurable things. Anyone with Leo as an ascending sign will not mind being the centre of attention, but may appear vain and females may appear needy in their relationships.

The Leo child is the star attraction, quite literally the Golden Child. If Gemini has an idea for a game, then Leo will get everyone to play it, come up with the rules and make sure that they also win. Usually bright and happy, Leo children are also extremely sensitive to criticism. They need to be liked and understood as much as they crave the attention. Public chastisement can cause emotional and mental problems that if left unchecked may develop into a destructive resentment or persecution complex. No matter how many points or stars a Leo child has for good work or behaviour, they will always need more. As one of the central signs of the twelve, Leo boys are very boyish and Leo girls and extremely girly. Both are likely to have red, golden or yellow hair, radiant faces and strong personalities right from the start. Learning to smile is their first and most important milestone; Leos use their gorgeous smiles to great effect as much as possible. Birthday parties are essential to the Leo child; the one day they can legitimately be everyone's best friend, and get presents, and show off all their new toys. While they may have the perfect outward appearance to take part in beauty pageants, Leo children really do not have the resilience to cope with the rejection of losing and should not be exposed
