This whole Shawn Merriman fiasco is about to drive me to the top of my limit. This guy is a joke. I'll give you the fact that he is an outstanding talent and a fine edition to the San Diego Chargers, but let's get real here. This guy used a performance enhancing drug. Basically, Merriman used it to enhance his performance. Yes, he did have 17 sacks on the season and was a major part of why the chargers were considered the best team in the NFL, but the guy used performance enhancing drugs. I mean, it makes you wonder how well he would f done without them. Even without the enhancing drugs, I believe Merriman would still be an outstanding player and definitely a pro bowler, but he wouldn't have had 17 sacks in 12 games. That's just unheard of.
I am a little surprised at how lightly the NFL is taking this issue. I mean, come on. In baseball, Shawn Merriman would probably be out for the season, but in football all they do is suspend you for four games at the most and now, they eliminate post season rewards like the pro bowl. Oh, yeah, like every guy in the NFL wants to spend a weekend of their off season hanging out with bunch of the guys they hate and pretending like their having a good time. That is what they're basically telling every guy in the NFL. Oh, and maybe you can't win the MVP or Defensive MVP, but in the long run, nobody even remembers the MVP from a couple years ago. Guys, like Merriman, don't care about that stuff. All the care about it beating up those they hate and getting a big fat paycheck with maybe a few rings on the side. I can bet you anything that Merriman has not learned his lesson and he will continue to take steroids, as long as he keeps getting paid.
Shawn Meriman is a great player and probably a decent guy, but to me taking steroids is a way of saying " I'm not sure if I'm good enough" or " I'm really insecure about my skills." This guy needs to man up and stop cheating, or else I think( or I hope) the NFL will take some serious action on this.
