Poetry: Understanding relationships

So you say you need time to gather your thoughts and see what path to take.

And even though it hurts to know time is needed, I will oblige for relationships sake.

I've hurt you and for that I'm wrong, even though I may not have realized what was going on.

But it's my responsibility to realize the problem and do my part to correct the wrong.

You never really asked for much but when you did request something,

At times I would blow you off like it was nothing.

Simple time on the phone,

A little piece and quiet to reflect on what's going on,

A kind word or phrase to let you know that you're on my mind,

Or maybe, even a poem to tell you how I feel about you in rhyme.

It seems like I work hard on the difficult things but lose sight of the simple.

But, it's the simple that keeps things going, that keeps things smooth, that keeps things gentle.

Now neither of us is perfect nor will we ever be.

But I want to do my best to be that perfect person for you, because I know you're the perfect person for me.
