Capitalism and socialism, two possibilities for society to conform to. Option one offers ownership and implied freedom from tyranny. Option two offers government institutions that take care of its citizens. In the course of human events man will attach himself to one possibility and stigmatize the other and use fear to persuade others to join their cause. I, my friends, am a capitalist who dislikes money and would not care if a government system took care of its citizens. I knew a few socialists back in school and would jump on their side in an argument because I understand the setbacks of my own system.
First off, the stigmatization of socialism. Under many socialist regimes freedom takes a backseat to progression of the state. Objects that are considered a luxury are highly priced or not available at all, my proof of this point is this; a very good friend of mine lives in Norge and while we were talking it came up that it costs $8.00 for a coke, where it would cost a dollar and a half in the states. Jobs are assigned, and the ability to move up to a higher position is very limited or non-existent.
Do you like public schools, food stamps, social security; if so then say "Thank you socialism" because they are government run programs. Know your enemy before you fight them. What is the point of having a government if they do not provide for the needs of its citizens. As long as a government is around why not let it take care of us; pay for healthcare, pay the disabled, feed the hungry, provide jobs for those who need them.
Capitalism, is the excepted norm in America and its ideals are driven into the youth everyday by cold war pigs. The right to own property and to own a business is a right to all citizens in America, but one must earn the ability to do so. Everything in a capitalist society must be earned or found. The government does not provide for its citizens but rather has the citizens provide for themselves. As stated before the U.S has adopted some socialist ideas, such as; public schools, social security, and food stamps.
Social Darwinism is supported by a capitalist society in the fact that the successful produce more successful offspring and so on, leaving the lower classes to liquefy in the ooze of failure. Success is judged by the margin of luxury one lives above his fellow man, and failure is judged by how far below the margin one is. Money is success, and with it houses, cars, electronics, and everything under the sun that can be bought with money.
The fear of socialism is rampant in America. Many are afraid of becoming Nazi Germany, Red China, or even the machine USSR. The people do not fear Norwegian or Swedish socialism, many do not even realize that these countries are not capitalist societies.
Why I love capitalism, because I can get anything anywhere. I can get a variety of the same product and my choice of which one is the better item influences the market. I can choose to be whatever I want as long as I work for it. I am free to travel wherever I want. This country is not perfect and capitalism is not perfect but in the end I would not have it any other way.
