Television has undergone a massive change over the years. Gone are the days of the classic family sitcom with the wholesome commercials. Now television is over populated with reality television and random commercials that are as far from wholesome as they could possibly be.
First lets discuss the changes in television shows over the years. Television, back in the day, was full of nice relaxing sitcoms that the whole family would gather around the television and watch. Admittedly, there are still a few sitcoms that continue to draw the family around the television, but they are few and far between. In the place of those family sitcoms, is the onslaught reality television. Reality television has totally taken over the television airways. Everywhere you look, there is some random celebrity or some family that gets a new reality show. They take the rest of American, all who choose to watch, on some random trip into their daily lives. Although some of the shows are interesting, the massive amount of them is just overwhelming.
Another aspect of how television has changed over the years is through the commercials. Commercials have definitely evolved from the commercials of old. The nice homely commercials with the little old lady or the stay at home mom that advertise detergent or dishwashing liquid, has been replaced by the scantily clad young lady who jumps and bounces around while advertising underwear, jewelry or buffalo wings. But to be fair, if the viewer looks hard enough, they might be able to find a descent commercial that advertises cooking oil, without the lady advertising it being covered in oil.
The finally area where television has changed over the years is in the physical look of the television. The television has undergone several transformations over the years. From the a small little box that displayed black and white images, to a huge floor model television with the wooden panel that displayed vibrant color images. Just the concept of color television was a hugr change in television over the years, but it doesnot stop there. The changes in television continued to improve with the concept of High Definition television. High definition television was as big an improvement over color television as color television was over black and white television.
Most people feel that change is for the better. In some cases that is true, but in other cases change is not always welcome. The changes in television quality are changes that are welcomed with open. The visual improvement in the quality of television was magnificent. But what about the quality of the television shows themselves? Society may be able to be visually stimulated by the changes in television, but it seems that the program quality of television has changed for the worse.
