if you look straight ahead,
all you see is symmetry.
a slight tilt of your chin
could cause quite a change.
that difference in life may very well
be all that you need to
view it from above so that
you may notice the lie.
lace up those shoes that
have sat by the door for
a time too long. the snow
will crunch and melt
and creak underneath
your feet. shed your winter
coat the way the trees are
shedding their ice. close

let the frost set in your
bones. it's not a short walk
from here to there.

Poetry: Winter's chill

With prayers to hold the snow
Five check-marks on a calendar,
Winter's gray morning heaves a cold blast of

When winter's chill arrives.
Snowflakes drift and flutter
Down to the ground.
I am surrounded by a landscape
A winter affair
I taste the snow as though it should be sweat,
Even the days are eerily not quite warm;
The chilly air burns
Winter's chill has made its way
atop my mountain home.
For me, again the joy begins
as winter's wild things roam.
