There are so many challenges facing gay minorities. All over the world. Even in America where they claim to have equal rights for every person. The gay community has to face many prejudices, hateful remarks, and discrimination everywhere. From growing up in schools to being an adult in the work place.
Lets start with when a person decides to come out of that proverbial closet. This is the first step. If not taken delicately it could cause a tremendous fall. Their entire lifestyle may change. Even if it doesn't they still have the possibility of being neglected. When a young child has the nerve to tell their parents they are gay one of two things will happen. Parents will accept them as gay or they will hate and neglect them. In more instances than not, unfortunately, parents don't understand. In turn they get angry or defensive with the child. Sometimes they even stop talking to them. This can be very traumatic for kids. Some have even committed suicide because of their parents neglect. Others will decide to run away from home. Traumatizing them possibly forever. Either way it is a sad situation that a child should not have to go through. On the other hand it is no better for the children to keep this fact bottled up inside. They should be able to let it out and be the individual they are. Parents should love them no matter what. They are still the same kids they were.
While it seems to have gotten a little easier for children to come out to their friends than before. It can still be a confusing time. Other students or friends will not understand it either. This can cause friction between them. Some of the prejudices from other students can be name calling, fighting, or even worse. With stereotyping being at an all time high in the world children are facing several problems at school besides their learning decline. We as adults should teach our children not to be biased towards one another. Children are our future we should love each and every one of them no matter what their sexual orientation.
As adults we should definitely know how to handle our own discrimination against others. However, still today, in a society that claims to be free and have equal rights discrimination abounds. People are not hired because of their sexual orientation all the time. The employer may not state that as the reason but it often is. Workers are many times not included in group activities because of their homosexuality either.
In everyday life homosexuals are ridiculed, hated, or even assaulted. These are serious issues that should be dealt with in a more productive manner. The way the gay communities civil and other rights are not enforced the same as heterosexuals are enough without all the hatred and other disrupting behavior in the world.
Homosexuals are mistreated in today's society to the point that something will have to change before long. If it doesn't then other actions will be taken I'm sure. People can only take so much neglect and hatred before they explode in an emotional imbalance. No matter who someone is, we as people, should not dislike them. We should try to get along. However this is not the case with people. Perhaps one day it will be. Until then discrimination of the gay community will be an alarming reality.
