So anyway, The question at hand... Does religion divide or segregate people? WHY HELL YEA! That is the soul purpose of religion. No pun intended. But the only reason a religion was ever created was to separate us from them. So first of all don't get belief and religion confused. Religion is a group of people with the same beliefs who get together to talk about everybody else. You know they got to figure out how to get everybody else on their side or otherwise they have to find a way to deal with them. Sometimes COEXIST is a dirty word.
As everybody in the whole world knows there is only one true religion. That is to say only one true belief. YOURS! Everybody else is wrong. They may have good qualities. They may have good intentions, but good or not, wrong is wrong and you are going to pay the penalties of My religion. Now as nearly as i can figure all the other (wrong) religions were created so someone or some group of people could control another group of people or in their minds control everybody. Now before you get mad at me I'm not talking about your religion. Cause you and I both know it's the only true one.
Well, if you think about it at their time of their inception I'm sure all religions served a purpose and were needed.I mean for example law enforcement in ancient times must have been hell. This way you could establish a standard of living with a complete list of rules or laws. That would keep everyone in check. And you would need very little manpower to enforce these laws because they were controlled by a higher power. Most found out they could use death or after life as the controlling factor. It was the greatest unknown and the most feared... so what if we told you it could be worse than you thought. Your not just gonna die and go away or turn to dust or something OH NO! Your gonna pay for all those things you did wrong for eternity. Unless you do right then everything will be better than you've ever imagined or can imagine.
I've always heard of "streets of gold". There will be "streets of gold" and everything will be so beautiful. That always confused me because they also say "money is the root of all evil". Yet in heaven gold is still held with such high regard, so beautiful and plentiful that they pave the roads with it. Well I always saw that in a different light. If they pave the roads with it then it puts it in the same catagorie as DIRT, GRAVEL,TAR and ASPHALT!
The main reason a religion became so needed was as time went by and people began to spread out and meet other peoples they soon found out they don't have all the same rules as we do. So people found new ways and some were happy. They thought this is great, but other don't like change so they had to come up with a new plan. And one of the best new rules of any new religion would be to demonize those other guys. Not only should you not do those things that they do. You should stay away from them and you probably should even HATE them. In fact hate them so much that we should just go over there and wipe them out.
The best way to bring people together is to give them something or someone to hate. And I think one's religion was one of the first things used to separate people with hate. Race and nationality came later and they work good too.So if you want to bring a group of people together, give them something to hate.Us against them works every time. Even a community organizer for example could use hate to bring people together. They could put hatred between say, oh I don't know, maybe, the haves and the have nots.
