Customizing Your Advertisements to Achieve Success
Communication is the key to advertising success, and in order to communicate effectively, you need to know your audience. The easiest way to achieve advertising success is through a process that helps you determine how those you want to advertise to will respond to the message you relay. This takes a bit of time and effort, as you survey screening groups to decide if your message is accurate and achieving the desired results. However, strong advertisers learn a lot about their customers by reaching out to them, making valid conclusions about their needs, and responding accordingly.
There are no short cuts when it comes to determining the focus of an advertiser's message. He must go out into the field and talk to the people he intends to sell products or services to. He can do this in a variety of ways: mailers, gimmicks, radio, television, and the internet. He can also invite a select group of individuals that will represent his target audience, and provide a unique screening opportunity that will reveal how they respond to different cues, pictures, and messages.
Upon learning their responses, the advertiser is ready to tailor his advertisement accordingly. Teens may not need a lot of verbal rhetoric, while the elderly might appreciate more of an explanation about his product or service. Children might respond well to dancing flowers, but show fear at an angry cloud. An advertiser's message should make his audience feel good when they see his advertisement. It should inspire them to engage in conversation, make them laugh, and remain memorable long after the ad is gone.
Advertising success depends on focused messages that cater to the needs of their target audience, and also intrigues their viewers and listeners enough to interact and respond to the message they receive. One of the ways advertisers achieve this is by respecting their audience and treating them as intelligent consumers. People simply don't respond well when they are treated poorly. In your face advertisers that tell you how things are get tuned out, while more passive ads that make you feel valued and appreciated are received with notable consideration.
By far the most successful ads are those that make people laugh. These advertisements focus on a much bigger target group, usually in the hopes of getting new customers. And it works too. People like to feel good, and they remember companies that don't take themselves too seriously. It's easy to do business with light hearted companies that simply enjoy being part of the community. Combine that with a custom tailored message that focuses on the individual needs of your intended customers, and you've come up with a winning formula that will easily be translated into advertising success.
