Can man ever be God?

Can Man ever be God?

Of course he can! How silly to even ask that question. We're told in the Bible that as you believe, it will be unto you, and after all, think about it, don't we already believe we are our own god? We go about our life as though we are in charge of it. We make our own decisions, direct our steps, make our own plans. For many of us we are the only god that we have. Some of us share the glory of our existence with a Creator, but come on, when it comes right down to it, our heart would declare; "I'm the one in charge of this show called Me."

That's what I thought until I sat on a bridge one day. The bridge ran over a stream. At that moment there was no one in my world but me, and for just an instant, as I looked at the beauty that surrounded me I had perfect clarity.

The first thing I noticed was that the water flowing down the stream stayed within the boundaries of the banks of the stream. Not one single drop of water rose up and said; "You know what? I think I'll flow to the left or the right because I just don't want to go this way anymore." As I watched the water flow obediently under my feet I also noticed that I didn't hear once an outcry of; "This just isn't fair!" from the water that was having to navigate around a rock in the stream, after first slamming into it.

I also noticed that none of the rocks that were in the stream were attempting to move themselves outside of the constant onslaught of water rushing at them, nor were any of the rocks on the riverbank looking at the rocks in the stream and longing to be immersed in the cool clear water instead of being out in the heat of the sun pounding down.

Looking up I saw the trees on either side of the stream. They stood tall and waved their branches in the breeze as it came and went. I didn't notice a single one that was straining to move itself closer to the water, or farther away. As the gusts of wind blew, none of them were trying to bend their branches more than the tree next to them or flutter their leaves faster than the one across the way. Not one single tree was attempting to somehow stand out from the rest and be the most noticeable.

Everything in this picture was doing exactly what it was created to do, except me. I was the only one here that was given free will, and with it I chose to constantly question the wisdom of God, second guess His plans for me, and use my prayer time to persuade Him to see things my way.

Since that day I've changed my ways.
