Fantasy novels are a great way to express one's self, and are an ideal way to escape into your imagination. Fantasy novels are on the rise because there has been a large increase in the demand for a good, involving story. A lot of people want to read/write in the fantasy genre most of the time because the population of readers has found real life to be increasingly dry and boring, as they are faced with an economy that supplies a growing sense of reality Truth be told writing a good fantasy story is not as difficult as it seems. Some people turn down the opportunity to write a great novel because they think it would take too long, others believe that they're not good enough writers and could never amount to J.K. Rowling, or any of those other great fantasy writers. It doesn't matter who you are, what your age is or anything like that. A good story isn't defined by the person who wrote it, but by the words that they wrote. You can't be afraid that people won't like it, you need to put your best out there, and if people don't think it's good enough, then just keep on going until you have a novel that will blow them away. Don't be afraid to start something you think might be a good idea. Once you begin a fantasy book, it's almost hard to stop. Don't freak out if you think the plot is weak or confusing, or the characters aren't interesting enough. Chances are it's all in your head. Finish your work. Don't go off on a tangent and start something new halfway through your first piece, that's probably the worst thing you could do. Practice makes perfect. Maybe write a couple of good short stories to get you rolling in the right direction, then put two and two together to make an even better idea. Another good piece of advice is if you don't know where to start in your novel, try thinking of what other people might want in a novel; get some outside opinions. And most of all; take your time and have fun. The best fantasy novels were never completed over night, and they probably didn't have deadlines either. Don't rush, and don't judge yourself to hard, who knows, the next story you write might just end up the new Harry Potter.
