Valentine's Day

Why Valentine's Day is bittersweet

Valnetine's day. Cheap capitalist American fad or an actual day essential to society?
Well for those of you lucky enough to have a date with a special someone it may take on immense importance, but for those of you stuck at home watching re-runs of only fools and horses with your dad chuckling away may want to just pack it all in.
Because the truth is, for every love-filled, heart-pumping couple, there is at least one emotionally wrecked loner thinking just what might have been.

However Valentines Day does bring unparalleled benefits for many businesses. It is restaurants busiest day of the year, with many sold-out with loved-up males determined to impress their partner with a meal at the best restaurant in town. Florists do an unbelievable amount of business leading up to the day with men avoiding the ear-bashing they will get if they don't serve-up breakfast in bed with a rose. Many other businesses benefit from special offers and events enticing couples, and simply could not be profitable without the day.
But spare a thought for the recently dumped or perennially single person. Imagine the pain they have to go through watching, what to them must seem like, the whole world celebrating their love. What a way to kick them in the teeth some more.
Even some partners in relationships must dread the fearful 14th of February date, for they know they're going to have to push the boat out. Imagine all that money going to waste on such items like flowers, a meal and another present to add to the one you bought them for Christmas and their birthday. All that effort to show your "love" can't you just do it a cheaper, less time-consuming way?
The money spent on pleasing the partner could be way better spent on maybe, a night at the pub with your mates for the lads, or a day out shopping with the girlie's for women.
But, as they say, "if it ain't broke don't fix it." For you unlucky souls this Valentine's Day, don't panic, you're true love is waiting round the corner and you will one day look back on those unsuccessful Valentine's Days and laugh uncontrollably.
And for you couples, just think of the reward you'll get for all that time and effort.
