Even before Resident Evil 5 came out, people were questioning its racism tactics. People thought, possibly, a white man, shooting at black men, killing them, was racist. However, they sort of left out the part about it being in Africa, and the Africans, the men the white man (Chris Redfield) was shooting at, are all zombified. Honestly, did the fact that they're all trying to kill Chris just escape these people? I honestly see no racism in it, besides, the game is co-operative, (so that either two people have to play, or one person has to deal with a stupid AI) one woman, one man. The man, Chris, is white (as we've discovered) and the woman, Sheva Alomar is not. She's African as well, just like all of these that they're shooting at. I mean, it's not like Chris is screaming racial slurs as he's shooting and prodding. As a matter of fact, he barely talks throughout the entire game.
Not to mention, the head honcho, Wesker, is white. The man behind it all, is white, and honestly, hasn't he been behind it all for the last six games? I mean, it's not like this is new to him or anything. Is the public getting so sensitive that we can't even have a game where there happen to be black people in it, without it being racist? Though, it makes me wonder, who's having problems with this? Is it the minorities themselves, or other people sticking up for them, hating the game, possibly even protesting, just so they won't look racist as well. I can't see how it's racist to have two people, trying to save themselves. Color is irrelevant. Just by thinking it's racist, doesn't that make YOU racist?
Honestly, I love the game. It's wonderful. Not to mention, there are some lighter-skinned people. I'm not sure if you could call them white, per se, but they're definitely lighter than the dark people that were originally the issue. Besides, does it seem likely that they would risk losing their entire franchise just to be racist? Why are games like Grand Theft Auto not being protested for racism as well, in IV you play as a black man who shoots at white people. Is that not racist?
It disappoints me that racism is everywhere in the world, and yet, all people can complain about is video games. Instead of being hurt over something that didn't even happen, why not try to do something in the world? I really don't understand why this would upset anyone that much. It's not racist, in my opinion, it's just a game. A good game, but a game nonetheless.
