Valentine's Day

Why Valentine's Day is bittersweet

Another chance for a balls up in the relationship. I have to remember birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas. Forget any of those and we'd be in divorce court. Forgetting Valentine's brings on a two day sulk. Why? I can't buy her chocolates because it might make her bum look big. I could take her out for an expensive dinner, but if she's on a diet I'll have to fork out for a $20 Caesar salad. A card. Yes, a card. But it has to be expensive or else I don't love her as much as I should.

Valentine's day is a good adolescent ploy. If you're shy, you can give a card to the boy or girl you fancy to let them know that you like them. Good concept. A lot of times it will come out blue for the recipient to receive a card from "you". They will at least be flattered, and rejection is not so painful if you send a card and get no response. Much different from asking face to face and being told NO. Valentine's Day should be limited for relationships 0-2 years old. If you make it to two years, great. You no longer need a "special" day to show your love. From time to time, I buy my wife flowers for absolutely no reason, other than the fact that I love her. I may get a wave of emotion on August 3rd. I don't need a calendar to tell me when or how I should show my love.
