Activities for children on Respect for Parents' Day

Respect for Parents Day is a holiday celebrated on August 1 of every year. Although children should show respect to their parents on a regular basis, special recognition should be given to parents during the month of August. Why, one may ask? Because during the summer months, parents have to work extra hard to ensure their children are occupied while they are on summer break. Mothers, especially stay at home mothers spend more time on housework if the children are home throughout the day. Fathers receive an extra workout due to the additional recreational activities they perform with their children. There are a number of activities children can do for their parents in honor of Respect for Parents Day.

One activity children can do is to create a card showing them how much they appreciate their parents. This activity will especially work for pre-school aged children. Children at this age are creative and love to draw. Older children can take time out of their day and watch their younger siblings voluntarily so their parents can enjoy a day of peace and quiet.

Children can also spend time doing an activity that their parents like to do. Often times, parents spend a lot of time doing the things that the children like to do. Sometimes, the time parents take out for their children to do the things they enjoy goes unnoticed.

Parents spend a lot of money on children; they not only take care of their basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter, parents also do their best to satisfy the wants of their children. On a daily basis, children tell their parents what they have to have such as that new pair of Jordan's or the latest game system. On Respect for Parent's Day, children can buy a small gift for their parents. A small gift goes a long way; what matters most is the gift comes from the child's heart.

Last, but certainly not least, children should ask their parents how their day at work went. Parents spend a lot of time listening to the daily activities of their children. We listen to their problems and we offer friendly advice. In return, on the special day children can ask their parents how they are doing.

Parents do not have the ability to take a true vacation until their children are out of college. Planning that special activity for parents on Respect for Parents Day will go a long way even if the children show a small token of appreciation for their parents.
