Stephanie Meyer's second installment in the Twilight Series, New Moon, hits theaters this November. If there are any other movies that are scheduled to be released this year, my obsession with New Moon's release has kept me in the dark. However, in my defense, the rest of the female world seems just as impatient as myself.
For those that don't know the story behind the books, it is a love story that has no equal. It's a tale of "young" love mixed with suspense like no other. In its simplest form the story reads like this: boy and girl meet, boy and girl fall in love, boy turns out to be a vampire. Normally a tale involving vampires is nothing but gore and cheap scares. These books offer a completely new insight to the world of the undead.
The Twilight series was an unexpected phenomenon. The characters were geared towards young adults and their experiences were based on issues that age group could relate to. Parents began reading the books on the recommendation of their kids, which then led to more and more referrals to unlikely audiences (like myself). People were in love not only with the characters, they were in love with the story and how different it was. Edward is a vampire, Jacob is a werewolf who kills vampires, Bella is a girl who they both love and whom is in love with each of them. It's a strange and twisted love triangle that leaves you begging for more, and that's just what I'm doing.
My anticipation of this film began last November after watching Twilight, a book brought to life with film after a huge and unexpected fan base emptied book store shelves around the world. The movie matched what my imagination had drummed up as I read the book. The characters were dead on and the imagery was amazing. Even though I had read all 5 books (Midnight Sun included) I found my mouth watering for more.
So far only 4 short previews, or teaser trailers, have been released. Everyone I know has watched them over and over again, trying to calm the addiction but being left wanting more. We scour the Internet looking for production pictures or gossip magazine articles about the film. We drool over tabloid news and schedule our lives around appearances and TV shows that Twilight's stars are scheduled to be at. We sign up on websites and buy T-shirts and bumper stickers for either "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob" (If you're a fan, you know what I mean).
I'm sure plenty of other good films are going to be out before the end of this year, but none of them have a hold on me like New Moon. From what I've seen, it's going to be a fantastic film. The only problem is, once it's over, I'll be waiting for the next one to come out. Oh the agony.
