You play with your pet each night and day
You love him, you care for him, he's there to stay
Then, one day, you find out you're broke
You think to yourself, "This must be a joke."
There's not enough money to care for your pet
No money to feed it or play with him
or take him to the vet
Softly you weep about ready to cry
You know without money he will starve,
and not survive
You consider your options and consider them well
What should you do for your little pet pal
You look in your wallet again and again
But still find little money in the end
Finally, you decide what you must do
Abandon it at the Adoption Center zoo
You say softly to your pet friend
"I love you. I'll miss you.
Our closeness will soon end."
Your adorable pet looks sadly into your face
And morbidly says, "I don't like this place."
You say it's over, it's done, it's through
You don't have enough money
to support him and you too.
He cries and pleads and says,
"Don't send me this way!"
"I must," you say.
You pick up your pet and soon walk away.
You get to the agency and say with a smile
"I promise I'll visit you once in a while."
Setting your pet on the counter,
you start to leave
But your friend, he cries,
he starts to plead
You say no, you just can't keep him
The adoption lady says to say goodbye to him
Suddenly, without a thought,
flinging your arms around your pet
You say, "I'll never leave you,
I was just upset."
You pick up your pet and lovingly say,
"I'll never, never forget such a day."
You think that night and finally decide
What made you turn back
were those sad, loving eyes.

Oh woe my fortune,
My heart imprisoned,
Like a captured image,
Forced inside the snow Globe.
