How to care for your skin as you get older

by Wahidabi Sulaiman

You do not have to get old to start caring for your skin. The earlier you start the better you will look and feel in your older years. Following are some tips you can follow to be on your way to experiencing great skin now and forever.

Stay away from the sun

Stay away especially during the period when the sun is at his best; 10 am to 4pm. Never go out in the sun without your sunscreen lotion, if you must. The more time you spend in the sun, the more damage it is going to do to your skin in terms of accelerated ageing and other skin diseases such as skin cancer. Therefore, enjoy your sun with good protection. Do not forget a good lip balm for your lips. It is important to protect lips from forming wrinkles as well.

Moisturize often

Apply hand and body lotion and moisturizers as often as required. This is as important as breathing itself if you want a great looking skin in your older years. What happens when we leave the vegetables out in the open? It wrinkles, loses its vibrancy and elasticity and darkens. Similarly, our skin will sag, wrinkle and loose its vigor if we do not moisturize.

Follow a regular skin care routine for your face as well your entire body

Moisturizing is part of the skin care routine that you should follow. Be sure to cleanse your face at least twice a day. Tone you face to balance your ph. Moisturize for hydration. Occasionally, scrub your face to get rid of dead skin. Go for a facial once a month for a face lift. Do your pedicure and manicure as and when required. Indulge in a spa experience maybe once a month or so. You skin needs to be pampered. Understand this and make time to pamper your skin. Switch to anti-ageing skin care products as you grow older. Eventually your efforts will pay off as you enjoy your days in your older age.

Drink lots of water

Water keeps us hydrated and keeps our skin supple. As such, our skin glows and looks healthy. Therefore, keep a water bottle handy wherever you go and drink it often. Frequent consumption of little water is much better than drinking one bottle of water at one go. Constant hydration is what our skin requires. Keep away from those gassy and sugary drinks. Plain water is what your skin needs. Juices do not count here although they are healthy.

Stay away from unhealthy habits.

Excessive drinking such that it gives you hangovers, are unhealthy. Anything in moderation is good. When it becomes an addiction, its effects will show. Therefore, stay away from excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Smoking as it affects you from inside out. You lips will blacken, the skin around your fingers will become yellowish and moreover, you will give off bad smell. Therefore, if you are serious about great looking skin, you have to seriously stay away from smoking and if possible, from smokers as well.

Binge eating deprives your body of its essential nutrients. Also, excessive gaining and losing of weight affects the elasticity of your skin. This will in turn cause wrinkles and also cause your skin to sag.

These are three most important unhealthy habits you should stay away from in order to attain great looking skin.

Consume lots of vegetables and fruits.

Anti-oxidants are much necessary for our body to wad off harmful bacteria and to detoxify our body. Detoxification of harmful substances will ensure that our body is functioning at its best and hence will spillover the good effects in the form of healthy and glowing skin.

In conclusion, you need to spend time and effort on your skin to ensure that it is healthy and glowing. If you neglect you body, your skin will show the effects. Therefore, if you want a great looking skin, stop abusing and start creating.
