12 Things NOT TO DO Just Before going To Bed :
1. Walk
Walking the dog or should I say that the dog takes you for a run will keep your muscles working overtime and no sleep comes for you.
2. Eat
Eating spicy pizza, greasy foods, or acidic foods like tomatoes will definitely give you heart burn. You'll be very uncomfortable sitting up all night belching that spice and grease.
Foods or drinks with caffeine in like coffee, tea, chocolate will keep you awake.
Eating proteins like meat and nuts will keep you awake.
3. Reading
Reading that good book you cannot put down keeps you up all night. Why? Because you just have to know what happens next.
4. Alcohol
Alcohol messes up your sleep pattern and you become very restless all night.
5. Television
Watching the news can make you angry and so depressed that sleep never comes. You cannot stop thinking about what was said as your mind keeps working overtime.
Watching shows that upset you can bring on disturbing nightmares off and on all night.
6. Smoking Cigarettes
Nicotine is a stimulant and will keep you awake.
Besides, smoking in bed has caused many houses to burn down as people have fallen asleep and forgot to put out their cigarette properly.
Maybe ash dropped on the bed and mattress began smoldering while they were in another room taking a shower and didn't realize a fire had started in the bedroom.
7. Computer
The computer is addictive and you should not be on it just before bedtime.
I love scrabble and have found myself playing all night with no sleep.
Then there is writing to write and rate on Helium.com. That too has been addictive to me at times.
Facebook just has to be checked and before you know it time has slipped away and you have another sleepless night.
8. Burn Candles
Don't burn candles just before going to bed.
Our neighbor had left a candle burning in the living room and went to the kitchen to get a snack and a cup of coffee. The fire raged before she even smelled smoke. But it was too late as the fire went from one curtain to another and the house was in flames in a few minutes. She called the fire department who arrived very quickly. Then she remembered her husband had gone to bed early and she tried to go in but the firemen held her back. He died in the fire and was burnt badly. We watched from our window as they took him on a stretcher to the ambulance.
9. Drink Water
Drinking several glasses of water before bedtime is not a very good idea. You will wake up frequently to got to the bathroom.
10. Exercise
Exercising before bedtime is a big NO-NO as you are stimulating your mind and muscles. You will need time to unwind and relax before even thinking about going to sleep. Exercise is good but do it in the morning to refresh yourself throughout the day.
11. Worry
Just before bedtime do not make a worry list about the next day's activities or to do list. Worry is stress and stress brings tension and tightness that keeps you awake. Make your list early in the day for the next day.
12. Argue
Do not argue before going to bed as you will never get to sleep.
Write the problem down and discuss it the next day when you both have had time to cool down and can speak maturely to each other in a softer tone of voice.
If you want to sleep, do the opposite of the above list and you will find your self sleeping well every night. Have a great night's sleep.
