Why it is worth considering going back to school after a layoff

You worked at the same company for years. You thought your job was secure so you settled into a comfortable routine. Now you have been laid off and don't have any idea what to do. There are a couple reasons that it might be worth considering going back to school now that you've been laid off.

If you take advantage of the lay off to go back to school you can learn new skills. Where you keeping up with the changes in your work place? Going back to school can get you the job that you had or a better one because it'll teach you new skills. It increases the chances of earning a higher wage and can actually decrease the length of time that you are unemployed. It'll give you something extra to put on your resume not only when you finish but you can list it while you're going to school too.



You can get the degree that you never did if you go back to school now. It's never too late to get your degree. Who knows you might decide that you want a new career. When you go back to school you can learn a variety of new things. If you were in accounting you might decide that you like working with your hands. You can take a course in automotive repair and open your own shop. Learning how to do simple car or air conditioning repairs yourself and getting your completion means that you can save yourself some money and earn money at the same time. You can take care of your own needs in these areas and make a little extra money in the meantime.

You'll keep your organization and time management skills in tact by going back to school when you get laid off. You can still look for a job but you will be learning new skills while keeping the ones that you had in tact. It takes a great deal of skill to meet the demands of work and school life.

You can make new contacts at school. You never know when one of your classmates will be a small business person looking for a new employee. If you happen to have the skills they are looking for you increase your chances of filling the job opening they have. There are a dozen reasons to go back to school when you get laid off from your job. You increase your skill level and keep your mind occupied by going back to school.
