Poetry: The life we leave behind

-Movie Star-

I once attended a party,
A smoke filled room entertaining the lot.
A poet reading from a dime store book
And a waitress serving free drinks.

Can I get you anything hon?
A shot of innocence,
Love,
Sex;
All on tap.

A sitcom came on entitled Life.
I sat back in my chair and watched for a spell:
War,
Hatred,
Greed,
Corruption;
Then the credits rolled
And your name appeared.
An actor performing underneath the stars,
For all of heaven to see.
You took a bow,
And for your final act;
Performed death.
The curtain fell.
To a standing ovation.
