Video game reviews: Sonic the Hedgehog (Sega Master System)

Sonic the Hedgehog is a game that was created for the Sega Master System. It is made in contrast with the Sega Genesis version. It is also seen some on the Sega Game Gear, Sonic Mega Collection Plus on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and of course by itself being the Virtual Console. It was sold on Sega's first major system in the video game market being the Sega Master System.

Of course, it is more known on the Sega Genesis but this one has some differences. For instance, there are no bonus rounds to collect the Chaos Emeralds. They are hidden with the first two acts and of course the third act is fighting the boss being Dr. Robotnik in whatever machine he decides to bring out for the time being.

The plot in this is that Dr. Robotnik is trying to take over the world. He has turned some of the animals into robots and Sonic must free them. Hidden are the Chaos Emeralds and Sonic must find them. If not, no matter what happens, Robotnik will be the victor without question showing off whatever emeralds that got left behind. Its plot is very simple to understand and remember many games didn't have complex plots to really go into detail. Mostly, it was about playing the game right away and moving on.

Graphically, it is nowhere near the Genesis in that sense but then again, this was a system before it so it was impossible to match it. That's like trying to compare the graphics from the Super Nintendo game Mario is Missing to the NES version of the game. There are limitations but it does the best it possibly can considering what the system is capable of. It isn't a bad in that department but graphics do not and will not make the game.

Its game play involved running and jumping much like the regular Sonic games. The basics had been shown on that and it is really not that hard to figure out if you really think about it. It is easy to control and nothing that would be too complicated. You had your basic directions to move and of course jumping and being able to do a spin dash by ducking and pushing a button to get it done.

It is an underrated Sonic game and really wasn't that bad. It is worth playing and of course, comparing to the Genesis Sonic, obviously you can see which one is the better one. Therefore, it should be looked upon as its own game and try to compare it to something it could never be. It is worth adding to your collection if you are a Sonic fan and would like to try out a different version of the Sonic game with some differences along the way.
