The old man lay dying
on a frozen patch
of sidewalk.
Nary a soul gave him
a comforting glance
nor a helping hand.
He searched across
the patchwork sea of
asphalt and concrete
that churned so brutally.
The sight that greeted
his ancient eyes
was not at all sweet.
All eyes were
lovingly turned
towards the fresh
new babe.
Gurgling with delight.
Big, blue eyes,
wide with wonder,
shone magically
on the bitter cold night.
Tiny shoulders that would
soon carry the hopes
and dreams of the world.
On the last second of
the last minute
of the feeble, fading year,
the old man gasped
and died.
The innocent tyke
was brutally unaware
that this same fate
would patiently await him
at the end
of this bright new year.

A new year
We mood up
Like a new puppy
For a few weeks

Our trees grow

A new year
The first day a new day
The old year forever gone
Memories for some
File the good destroy the bad
