Almost everyone has a computer now. We use it for multiple things during our daily lives. The computer is fun for such things as playing games, searching for our favorite topics, or even talking with friends and family. Our children also use the computer for these things and more.
However, as adults, we usually have already learned about spelling and grammar. When we do mess it up it doesn't usually cost us a grade. We can just fix the problem. Our kids on the other hand are growing up with so many different languages now days. I'm not talking about English and foreign languages either. I am referring to such things as slang, abbreviations, and computer chatting language.
This is much more complex than one may think. With everyone being in such a hurry these days someone had to come up with a way to speed up our talking. So they invented what I call computer language. That's what we all use when chatting with on another or sending e-mail. What if while doing this we are in some way losing touch with a much bigger picture. Are our children becoming less literate? At least with spelling words properly.
Let's see what is happening. When our children are on the Internet chatting or texting on the telephones are they finding it hard to use proper language? It seems to be a useful thing for speeding up our chatting. So it can't be all bad. However a problem may be persisting. Some children haven't learned how to spell words correctly. The Internet slang and silly icons are taking the place of everyday words. If this continues will we know what they are saying? Will they? I have no idea. Only time will tell.
This is a computer generation growing up in today's society. I think they will be fine. I just hope they will continue to learn their grammar and spelling too. Words are very important in people's lives. We use them constantly. The children should know how to speak and write them.
We shorten so many words or change the word entirely into a keyboard do-dad. I wonder if language will be the same. Maybe we will be forced to incorporate this computer language into our daily lives instead of the children learning what we know? I think it has already happened. We all use the computer and the language it thrust our way.
Does the Internet harm grammar and spelling skills? I guess it really doesn't too much. If the children are taught properly in school and by their parents I believe they will do fine. For us parents we just have to accept it as another language and go on with our lives. After all it's not only with the computer anymore. This stuff is on the television, phones, and many advertisements around the world. Our children should do alright. It's been around for awhile now. Ty. For those that don't know that's... Thank You. There are many other words but that one will sum up this article. So I do thank you.
