''There is no world without Verona Walls,
But purgatory, torture, hell itself.
Hence-banished is banish'd from the world,
And world's exile is death''

William Shakespeare has immortalised the town of Verona in his famous novel featuring the love tragedy of lovers Romeo Montecchi e Giulietta Capuleti perhaps, better known abroad simply as ''Romeo and Juliet''.

Indeed the home of Juliet Capuleti is one of the most visited landmarks in Verona, featuring the famous balcony where according to Shakespear's fantasy novel, she used to talk to her lover, Romeo. Today, tickets can be purchased to visit the entire building and appreciate the characteristics of medieval architecture. Many women enjoy having their pictures taking leaning against the balcony. A popular bronze statue of Juliet made by sculptor Nereo Constantini may be appreciated at this location. There is belief that rubbing this status's right breast, will bring good luck. So don't be surprised why this statue's right breast is much shinier than the lefts'!

The tomb of Juliet is also a much visited site. Juliet's last resting place may be found by the San Francesco al Corso cloister on Via del Pontiere.

Verona however, has much more to offer than romanticism. It is an historic city rich in history, culture and art that has attracted for many years tourists, artists, writers and poets. Strolling through the streets, historic paths unfold through ancient palaces and intriguing fortresses. Verona is perhaps the second city after Rome to exhibit well preserved Roman remains.

The most relevant monument of Verona is the ''arena of Verona'' an amphitheatre that was once used by the Romans. Still, nowadays, large scale opera concerts and theatrical representations take place here with the capacity to welcome quite enormous crowds.

Several churches exhibiting amazing architecture can be admired in Verona. Of particular interest is the Cathedral featuring elevated ceilings and interesting statues.

Out of the city outskirts, the Garda Lake awaits people looking for tranquility. Wolfgang Goethe was one of this lake's first admirers back in 1786. The lake may be enjoyed by ferry or by taking the funicular line with rotating cabins for breath taking views. Several itineraries may be taken either by bike, foot or horse back.

Verona can be easily reached by its airport, rail system and buses. From a climatic point of view, Verona features particularly warm summer months and with humid winters that often give life to its typical fog.

As seen, when it comes to touristic attractions, Verona is a very generous city. If you are planning to visit Verona make sure to book your hotel in advance especially during the busiest touristic months. Expect crowds at the most popular attractions. Last but not least, don't forget to enjoy the Verona's great local cuisine accompanied by its finest wines.
