In the economic climate today, more and more people are being faced with layoffs. The uncertainty and confusion often hold us back from considering alternate solutions.
With the demands of family responsibilities and pressing bills, your optimism can be sorely tested. Struggling to find a job, any job, may become your priority. Your self-esteem and pride have suffered a serious setback, which may be difficult to get past.
Considering retraining, upgrading, or a full time return to school is something everyone should at least consider. Many layoffs will be permanent, and finding alternate employment seems to be getting more and more difficult.
To offset the rising number of unemployed people, many government agencies have developed programs to assist mature students return to school. While this may seem daunting at first, there are actually many benefits to be had.
~ Many schools provide programs that can easily be done on- line or by correspondence. Others provide training programs at night to enable you to search for work, or to work as you train. Find the one that best suits your needs, and then just go for it.
~ Financial assistance is available to mature students now more than ever before. Many of them cover the total cost, while others provide a living subsidy based on your requirements. Contact your local employment center for additional information.
~ Going back to school allows many to have a second chance at a dream job that may have eluded them in the past. Whether you are upgrading your current work skills, or pursuing an entirely new vocation, opportunities are plentiful.
~ There is something about getting up and taking action that leaves you feeling good about yourself. Returning to school, on any level, is much more satisfying than sitting around in a funk, worried about the future.
~ There is never any good to come out of sitting back and doing nothing. This only increases stress, depression, and your overall well- being. Fear of change is difficult, of course, but it can be conquered.
~ Perhaps you are considering returning to school but have not decided what career you would like to pursue. Aptitude testing is available free of charge at most employment centers as well as many online websites. Find something that suits your abilities and your personality.
Stay positive and get moving. Getting started is the first step to mapping out your future. Explore the various programs available to find the one that is right for you. Dream big, and picture yourself in a career that will be rewarding and satisfying.
