Finding one's way

For most of us, finding our way can often be a difficult task. More times than not, the journey is a bumpy road. As we get older and wiser, the road smoothes out a bit. But for the most part, finding our way is a journey. How we take that journey is a choice.

How do we find our way? More importantly, how do we find our way with the least amount of troubles? Most of us tend to mix our fears and own resistance into the mix, and that's where things really become difficult. Self-sabotage and fear are what drives us into stressful situations. Thus, making our way becomes a drudge instead of a peaceful journey. You need only look in a mirror to find the true problem. Don't worry - that goes for us all.

No matter what the issue you face today, some time from now if you even remember this stressful day, you will wonder why you made such a big deal of it. Think of the most horrible thing that has happened in your life. Since you are reading this, I can only assume you did not die from the horrible thing about which I asked.

You are breathing and hopefully reasonably healthy. So what's the point of stressing out about anything? I agree there are times when stress is going to overwhelm the best of us. But think about this for a moment. If you were a commander in the military, facing insurmountable odds and being overwhelmed by the enemy, do you think Patton rolled up in a ball screaming? No, I don't expect you to have the mental constitution of General George Patton. But military men and women have to face life and death situations and find the strength to rise above them. You can find the strength; it's within all of us, even YOU.

As much as any human is able, you must learn to still your mind and quiet your soul. In order to find your way, you need to have a clear head. This will make the journey much easier. Find a place that gives you peace. If that's a physical space such as a river side, then go there. Perhaps it's in prayer or meditation that you can find inner peace. If you don't have such a space, then it's time to go find one.

Remember, as a kid you probably had a favorite spot in which to play. Start there and move forward. Simply find a place where you can let go if only for a moment. As you practice, those moments get longer. You have to unplug yourself from life, work, kids, spouses and your troubles. All will be there when you get back. Allow yourself to still your mind and get to an inner quiet place. Here you will find answers to all life's mysteries. It's truly amazing which answers you will find and how simple our most complex problems really are. The complexity comes from our own fear.

For those of you who say I simply don't have time, hogwash! If you - heaven forbid - became ill, or your child - heaven forbid - became ill, you would find time to stop everything you are doing to remedy this issue. You can find time when forced to do so. Your life is worth it. Find the time, take it!

In baseball, there are players who can hit a curve ball out of the park every time. Those players had to practice, practice, practice! When life throws you a curve ball, you can smack it out of the park as well. You simply need to practice that which gives you inner peace. Then finding your way will be pleasurable and fun.
