Although it would be hard to say which games are the best, testing certain types of games on users who have different game preferences can reveal which games truly stand out. For example I am not a strategy gamer, therefore if there is one strategy game, like 'Company of Heroes' , which will make me sit down for hours in front of the screen then I know there is something special about that game.

Firstly before carrying on I find it imperative to distinguish that as a big FPS player, games like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: World at War, have always been in my top favourite games when it comes to the realistic environments and physics depicted. The sales of Call of Duty 4, which surpassed 10 million worldwide, and the hundreds of thousands of gamers found online at any log on moment would be sufficient to wipe out any competitors. However these first person shooters are not strictly console games and can be found on every type of gaming platform. Most importantly their predecessors were designed for the PC.

Therefore we move on to the XBOX 360, a console designed to take full advantage of online multiplayer gaming, a characteristic which should be noted when looking for the best 360 game. The console uses joy pads instead of a keyboard and mouse and therefore another question is how intriguing is the controllability of the game to the player. Last but not least the game must show an extensive use of the XBOX 360's graphical capabilities and try to use this in a unique way.

Two games would then stick out for me when it comes to the answering this topic. Halo 3 and Gears of War 2. Although I have not played as much Halo 3 as I would of liked to the beautiful scenic maps which are conflicted with the image of death and war, which is courtesy of the powerful arsenal of weapons you can choose from, makes getting away from your screen for a simple toilet break an impossibility. Adding to the addictiveness of this game are the multiplayer options, which allow you to choose from a good selection of maps and game types, but also allows you to customize your character down to even the colours of the emblem on your armour. (I know you Call of Duty fans will say that you can customize every detail of your weapon too, however we are talking about the 360 here.)

Gears of War 2 is a game that frustrates me because of the potential it has and how it is often let down by one simple fault. Firstly let us say what is brilliant about the game such as the amazing single player, which can be played co-op online well and works great because both characters can follow different paths and need to help each other to complete levels. The maps and epicness of the missions surpasses any other game you might ever see. The colour correction of the game combined with the new style of third-person gaming make it a hardcore experience between your hands and the joy pad. Each kill feels cool and gritty as Epic have designed the game so that the even organs and bones within the characters can be exposed. However as mentioned before the only true killer of this game is the fact that its multiplayer is peer to peer and online gaming may become laggy.
