Tips for buying bargain jewelry

Buying bargain jewelry is an interesting concept since the term bargain can mean many things to many people. For a millionaire, a $100,000 diamond going for $50,000 would be considered a bargain. For a youngster, a bracelet for $2 could be a bargain. Bargains can be found everywhere - you just need to open your eyes to what is around you.

You can purchase very cheap jewelry through online sites such as eBay and Bidz. The problem with buying through these sites is that you cannot physically see or touch the item before buying. You are relying on an accurate description by seller. If you don't like what they send you the chances are you won't get any sort of refund.

Bidz at least are a little more secure and they do have a reputation for selling quality jewelry at fairly cheap prices - some as low as one dollar . Ebay has a reputation that is not always enviable. Some buyers have had big problems with issues such as non-delivery or for receiving items that don't match their descriptions.

Buying off-line can often be as cheap (especially when your add postage) as buying online. The benefit being you can see who you are buying from, you can touch the merchandise; perhaps even try it on. You can also see what sort of condition the jewelry piece is.

Jewelry stores are no different to most other businesses. They have regular sales with some jewelry at ridiculously low prices. A second place to look for bargain jewelry is through second hand stores. You can often buy very nice looking vintage or heirloom jewelry at fairly cheap prices. Take the piece to a jeweler and they can clean it, reset the stones and really bring that jewelry back to life.

One problem that we all face is that of the economy. When the economy is down (as it is now), the price of gold and other precious metals rises - often drastically. Jewelry shops have no options but to pass these costs on. If you can wait, often the real bargains come when the economy is sailing along. The cost of the dollar is stable and the cost of importing quite cheap.

Bargains are in the eye of the beholder. You may find what you are looking for on ebay. or Bidz, or you may prefer to shop in person to find the most appropriate pieces. By buying in person you can at least try the jewelry on and see if it fits your needs.
