When we think of black clothing, the first thing that comes to mind is the little black dress that is hanging in the closet. Today it doesn't have to be just the black dress; our wardrobes hold many items that are black especially if you have a teenager that loves black. If your black clothes are looking a little faded it is time to take action, not by throwing them in the nearest garbage but to refresh your black clothes and make them look like new. Here are some ways on how to keep your black clothes black.
Avoid over washing
From the time you bring home your black clothes keep in mind that every wash will rob a little of the deep black color of the fabric. To avoid this problem you can try not having the black garment in every wash you do. Sometimes black clothing can be used more than once without washing. For example if it is a black dress and you have worn it for an hour or two it really won't need to be washed. If you want it refreshed, hang it on the clothes line for a few hours and if it's a cloudy day the better it will be for your garment. Sun can fade black clothing just as over washing can do, so don't leave it out to long, just enough to freshen your garment.
Hand washing black clothes
Always check your labels for washing instructions before you go any further. When you have worn the garment enough that you know you have to wash it then do it with care. Instead of placing your black clothes in the washer, soak it in cold water and Woolite or any detergent that is gently on clothing. Don't leave it soak to long even in a gently detergent, this can also cause black clothes to bleed easy and fade your garment. Squeeze out the excess water after washing and hang it up to air dry. Try to avoid placing black clothes in your dryer by doing so can also help fade the color, although if the label advises it you certainly can use the dryer if you want.
Using your washer
You can wash your black clothing in a washer if the label advises it. Gather all your black clothing together and place it in the washer in cold water. If you're washing your black clothing for the first time try a cup of white vinegar in your wash it will help to block the color from running. There are also detergents on the market that are made especially for washing black clothes. Turn all your black clothes inside out to help stop the abrasion of the washer. Using a gently detergent let your clothing go through a full cycle and remove and air dry if possible.
