Well, since I'm doing this blog thing now, I suppose I'm expected to deliver some clever, intelligent and thought provoking statement in light of last evening's State of the Union Address. I got nothing. And I've been trying to come up with something since 10:00 last night. I am quite disappointed. I'm disappointed in the President and for the President. I don't know about you, but I thought it was a waste of time to even watch. I definitely could have sat through another hour of those awful Memphis American Idol auditions.
There is something I must admit. I love the President. I do, I love him. I love his cowboy twang, his goofy ears and his sheepish smile. I love his self-confidence, his arrogance and his inability to properly speak the English language. I just can't get enough of this guy. He was such a refreshing change after the last bozo, how could you not love him? Finally, a real man in the White House.
But I felt bad for him last night. I hated that he had to go and deliver some stupid, predictable speech to those ungrateful, disrespectful and dishonorable %&*+#@$%!
I admire that he even showed up. If it had been me, I would have stayed home. Not many of us would show up to give a speech on national television with 200+ of our devoted enemies in the audience. And with your most outspoken one sitting right behind you, sighing at all you say. (And what was wrong with Pelosi's eyes did they clip her eyelids too short in surgery?) I think he was brave to go and deliver the speech. (Or, as I suspect, he really could give a rat's ass what they think.)
I was disappointed that he pandered to the Dem's,. I pretty much blacked out during the domestic agenda portion of the evening I've heard it before, I'll hear it again. The deficit, education, health care, poverty, blah, blah, blah. These are facts of life. The Federal Government can and will do little to effect change in these areas. It is our obligation as citizens to locally address these problems. Truthfully, if we weren't so well off right now, we'd be more concerned about these things. But things are good, so we're not. Does anyone really think the President is concerned about the environment or global climate change? (I thought it was a nice touch to say climate change and not warming I'm sure all those left wing environmentalist wack jobs are really "steamed" over that one.) And how about that bit about Darfur? Are you serious? Money and diplomacy and UN peacekeeping troops aren't going to solve this one. An aircraft carrier full of bombs might, though! (But of course no one is going to vote to send a bunch of US troops into that hell-hole not if they want to keep their cushy government job.)
I wish he had walked in there last night and told them the truth. I wish he had walked in there and said the following.
"Good Evening. It really sucks to be here tonight, so I'll be brief. The country is at war and there is no room for compromise. As the Commander in Chief, I have made a decision and that decision stands. Y'all have already decided what your reactions and responses will be to my speech tonight, so I'll just run along home now and let you get back to the business of blindly criticizing every word I say. If you need me, I'll be watching the American Idol auditions that guy Simon really cracks me up!
Well, g'night and God Bless America."
