Our Own World
Someone was knocking at the door. The knocking snapped Rich out of a fog which entailed him being lost in thoughts of his late wife Shannon.
Shannon and Rich were married for 10 years. It was till death do they part because they were madly in love. Rich remembered the first time he saw her standing in the doorway of her house. She stood about 5'5" had a beautiful figure along with beautiful red hair.
Shannon would always tell her friends that for her it was love at first site but always wondered if it was for Rich. Truth was he had been hurt before; trusting and falling in love were not high on his list. The thought of commitment scared the hell out of him but deep down Rich knew she was the one because when he was with her his world became their world and to hell with everyone else.
Rich stands up to answer the door. "Just a minute." He yells as he looks down at the sofa they picked out.
"Rich we have to get rid of this old frat house couch and get a sofa."
"Sofa?" he questioned the word and not the need for a new one.
"Yes sofa, that's what you call a couch when you live in a home. Couch sounds, well it sounds like we are furnishing a frat house." She said with a half grin.
Rich looks into the kitchen as he turns toward the door and remembers the day that the remodel was done and how happy Shannon was to have a new kitchen.
"Finally I can have my own kitchen." Shannon gave Rich a big hug and said "This is really our place." Rich hugged her back and didn't want to let her go.
Someone knocks again. "I'm coming!" Rich says annoyed because his thoughts keep getting interrupted. He looks down the hall towards their bedroom.
"In 35 years from now I plan on being here and doing this very same thing." He told her while lying next to her in bed.
"What's that?" she asked with a little smirk on her face.
"Waking up next to you."
"Are you going to remember me in 35 years?" she said teasingly.
"The day I can't remember being in love with you is the day that I no longer want to be alive."
Another knock happens and again Rich lets the annoyance know he'll be there in a second.
Richard remembers the night he found out. "Are you Mr. Richard Cain?" the officer asks.
Richard doesn't want to answer but knows he must. Maybe its nothing, maybe the cops are here to tell him that someone backed into his car.
"Yes." He says with a great deal of hesitation.
"Mr. Cain your wife has been in a very bad
