Nancy Pelosi should step down. Or at the very least, not run for re-election.
She seems to have the unique ability to say the things that most frustrate people. Unlike Joe Biden when this woman puts her foot in her mouth, she keeps trying to eat it.
When she took over, she said, "We are going to clean up this town. Get rid of the culture of corruption." (Meaning Republicans, I imagine). It was nice to see such passion. The only problem, She didn't follow through with said promise. If anything, the Democrats have led a more colorful life then the Republicans.
Her biggest blunder was laying claim to the CIA knowingly lying to the oversight committee and she did not know anything about water boarding. From this the press kind of called her to the carpet but then they backed off when the rest of the Dems. came riding to her defense. Politicians, both sides, should be above this kind of mud slinging, they need to be centered on taking care of the country's business and not worrying about their political careers.
In just the past week the Speaker has now called those who oppose health care reform, that includes Repubs., Dems. and Inds. who are against this giant government subsidy, astroturfers, this means that these people are not grass roots and are plants for Republicans. Funny, a lot of said shills are from both parties.
She then makes the claim that she has seen swastikas at these events, somehow equating them with the nazi party. This is not the job for the third most powerful person in our government. Again, she needs to be above the fray but she's not doing that. By allowing herself to step down into the mud pit that is happening, she is making herself not only a target but irrelevant. You simply can't go around attacking the American public and marginalizing them.
In her quest to be the first woman speaker and to consolidate her power, she forgot for whom she works and why. All of them have. They spend too much time furthering their own goals and not doing enough for the people. In the speakers case though, she has been there way to long. She now seems to be of the idea that we should do as she says and not as she does. I get the impression she feels that as third in line for the presidency, she is no longer accountable to we the people or for anything that she does.
So, yes, It is time for the speaker to step down. The American people are changing. They are no longer willing to accept the status quo and that is evident in the country today.
It is time for Mrs. Pelosi to take her well-earned retirement from public service and let fresh ideas come to the surface.
