Staying strong and sober are some very serious words. Growing up around alcoholics, I had set my mind at a young age to stay strong and sober. Being addicted to alcohol should be considered just as bad as being addicted to drugs. I honestly think that alcohol such as beer, and whiskey should be illegal. I understand that there are allot of people who love their one glass of wine at dinner time or that ice cold beer when they come home from a hard day at work.
Unfortunately, people do not realize that in five or ten years later they may become an alcoholic. People do not all of a sudden wake up one morning and say "Ok for the rest of my life I am going to drink alcohol and become the best alcoholic in the world". All alcoholics start out with that casual and social drinking with their family and friends. Social drinking is what gets allot of young drinkers addicted.
I am a very fortunate person for not being an alcoholic. With the alcoholism in my family, I am at risk every day. I can't just have that one refreshing beer after a long day or even a fancy looking margarita on the beach during vacation. After seeing several people become addicted to alcohol, the thought of not being strong and sober turns my stomach.
Alcoholics turn into complete monsters after a few years of consistent "casual" drinking. They'd end up drinking and driving and could end up killing themselves and or someone else. Or if they are lucky, they will get pulled over be the police and get arrested for their fourth and final DUI.
The most saddest part of being an alcoholic is that many drinkers turn to harmful drugs when they are intoxicated. They get this carefree attitude that they can do anything.alcoholism leads to violence and crimes. Along with the hurt that they are applying to themselves, innocent people get seriously hurt everyday from alcoholics.
Feeling relaxed and carefree for that short session doesn't even measure up to the proudnes and the extreme relief that I get when I am a strong and sober individual. When I said short session, I was talking about the little amount of time when a drinker gets buzzed. They are feeling great when they are all buzzed up, but what about the throwing up and the major headaches that alcoholics get after the buzz?
As an addictive person myself, my tips to all alcoholics that want to become and stay strong and sober consists of: Keep yourself busy with other activities that you enjoy doing. Build a strong support group and reach out for help when you need it. Think of your family and think of how much they need you too stay strong and sober. Stop and Imagine how horrifying it would be if you accidentally killed someone while you were intoxicated. Stay Strong and Sober for yourself!
